Let’s Go Shopping Together

As much as we love and appreciate your mail order, we are big fans, believers, and supporters of RECORD STORES!

Below is a list of the great stores in Los Angeles that carry our records.

Freakbeat Records 13616 Ventura Blvd.  Sherman Oaks, CA 91423

Imagine John Cusak and Jack Black from High Fidelity.  Now add 20 years.  Bob and Tom are rad, and run the best record store in the world.  One time Bob told us he didn’t like Bob Dylan, and that he doesn’t listen/pay attention to/care for lyrics.  That’s awesome.

Amoeba Music 6400 Sunset Blvd.  Los Angeles, CA 90028

Not much to say about Amoeba that hasn’t been said already.  Imagine your favorite mom and pop shop merged with Costco…  Worlds largest independent record store.  You’ll find everything here.

Vacation Vinyl 4679 Hollywood Blvd.  Los Angeles, CA 90027

Rad new record store.  Cool almost chic vibe and carries a lot of insane heavy music you’ll have trouble finding anywhere else… along with all the other great stuff.

Territory BBQ + Records 534 N Hoover St.  Los Angeles, CA 90004

A BBQ Restaurant and Record Store under the same roof… THE AMERICAN DREAM, right?  Go here, buy a sammich, then buy some records.  Pull on Tony’s beard, and tell him we sent you.

Origami Vinyl 1816 West Sunset Blvd.  Los Angeles, CA 90026

Another new record shop in LA specializing in new records, mainly indie/punk/underground.  Located right next to the Echo and surrounded by two of the best places to get Pizza in LA.

Equator Books 1103 Abbot Kinney Blvd., Venice, CA.

Equator sells out of print books, records, serves as an art gallery, and now a Cafe as well.  Slang Chickens once played here too.  Right near the beeaaach.

INCHERS

Hello!

The Slang Chickens LP is featured in LA Weekly’s INCHES column.  INCHES highlights new and interesting vinyl releases.  If you are record fanatics like ourselves you are most likely familiar with the column – but if not, its rad, so check it out.

On an unrelated note, I am completely FLOORED by the following Dirty Three performance, filmed in a hotel room at ATP.  SHIT!

I’ve got to admit, when photos of Nick Cave with a mustache first surfaced a few years ago i was a bit freaked out, dare I say even disgusted by his new look.  Now that the stache is gone, I really do miss it.

Happy Thanksgiving

Here at Psychedelic Judaism, we are thankful for many things.  Be it the sunshine on a crisp fall day, or Black Flag’s “Black Coffee,” (sorry, Slip It In was the first thing I listened to this morning) we are grateful for the fine things this world has to offer.  Most importantly, we are thankful for our amazing friends who have helped us with our work here at PJ.

The man photographed above is none other than Jon Seaton.  Jon has done the artwork for both of our releases thus far.  He has also trained us in the art of screen printing, and has spent countless hours dealing with all our neurotic tendencies.  You might have seen him play drums for War Wagon in 1998-1999… maybe you saw them play at Headline Records?  Jon is known to disappear into the woods, shame any man or woman on the dance floor, and make a delicious meal with whatever scraps you have left in your fridge.

Above you will find a photo of sweet little Lisa Ziven sewing up some Slang Chickens LPs.  Yes, Lisa (known to some as Shorty Warbox) sews EVERY SINGLE one of these bad boys herself!  I know this might seem like sweat shop labor but don’t be alarmed, we make sure Lisa is well taken care of.

From our family to yours, please enjoy our Psychedelic Judaism Thanksgiving Mixtape.

1. Neil Young – Harvest
2. The Kinks – Skin & Bone
3. The Flaming Lips – She Don’t Use Jelly
4. The Velvet Underground – We’re Gonna Have A Real Good Time Together
5. The Beach Boys – You Need A Mess Of Help To Stand Alone
6. The Ramones – We’re A Happy Family
7. Descendents – I Like Food
8. Articles Of Faith – Give Thanks
9. Hot Snakes – Think About Carbs
10. Jimi Hendrix – Freedom (Unreleased Version)
11. Al Green – Here I Am (Come And Take me)
12. Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds – Red Right Hand
13. Tom Waits – Don’t Go Into The Barn
14. John Lennon – Meat City
Slang Chickens have two upcoming LA shows.  One is this Thanksgiving weekend!
